So you’ve got your domain (if not, then snag it now! iHostMusicians.com) but you’re not ready to have a website built. What should you do?
Well if you’re active on Facebook then you may want to forward your domain to your page. This means that when someone types in your domain name it will send them to your Facebook page. This way you can have promo material printed with your domain name and not have to worry about sending people to a blank page while your site is still in the works. Of course this will work equally well with any other page or any profile that you might have, such as Bandcamp, Reverbnation, etc.
Every domain registrar is a little different, but this should be fairly simple with any setup. Here’s how it works on iHostMusicians.com:
- Log into your account.
- Then click on ‘Launch’ next to the heading ‘domains’.
- Click on the domain name.
- There should be three main columns ‘Domain Information’, ‘Domain Enhancements’, and ‘Related Products’. Look for ‘Forwarding’ at the bottom of the ‘Domain Information’ column. Click on the ‘Manage’ link.
- Type or paste in the URL of your Facebook page (or whichever page you like to send people to).
- Click OK.
That’s it! It will take a few minutes for the forwarding to take effect, otherwise, you’re good to go!
